Asian art Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Asian art - Essay Example Another difference is in the materials used. Simply by taking a detailed look at the Vairocana Buddha, one can begin to notice several significant elements of this piece that distinguish it as a unique piece of art even though it portrays a familiar and often reproduced (in smaller scale) image. Unlike many of the other Buddha statues that are made of a single block of stone, this statue is constructed in such a way that its natural life process has only contributed to its ability to communicate. It is made of hollowed out cedar wood coated, lacquered and then painted with gold leaf or paint. With the lacquer layer working to reflect any light that penetrates through the gold layer, this statue would have gleamed in any kind of illumination, presenting its viewers with a dazzling display of unearthly beauty and light that would chase itself and play along the different curves, angles and lines of the various sections of the piece. It’s approximately life-sized, which gives it an awesome power in its presentation, but also a familiarity and approachability that a larger statue might not have. It invites you to take a closer look and to get to know it on a personal level. The effect of the wearing surfaces, with gold remaining on some areas of the statue but exposed wood appearing in other areas, serves to heighten the experience for me. Although it wasn’t necessarily a part of the original intent, this aging effect immediately conveys the idea of ancient wisdom and abiding endurance.

The Importance of Marketing to Organizations in the Twenty-first Coursework

The Importance of Marketing to Organizations in the Twenty-first Century - Coursework Example The paper tells that for many companies in today's business environment, the marketing process is largely centered upon the concept of brand building, which is employed in every phase of the marketing process. There are numerous challenges to be faced when a company determines to market in a global economy, even when they plan on conducting business on a strictly local level. One of the major challenges is trying to find a means of communicating to a variety of cultures through the means of a single message. Every society has its own standards and concepts of what is acceptable and what is motivational. While Americans seem to respond well and quickly to ads that celebrate individualism such as a Nike ad in which a soccer team disrupts normal activity at the airport, Segal reveals the responsiveness of Chinese consumers to these kinds of appeals. For the Chinese, these ads only have an effect if, like McDonald's ads that capitalize on a Chinese cultural belief that beef acts as an ap hrodisiac, it promises some kind of payoff. Technology has assisted in these areas, though. As cultures begin to merge through closer connections, modifications to advertisements can be made with a few digital clicks. Technology makes it possible for advertisers to quickly modify the imagery used in their marketing campaigns. More sophisticated means of managing merchandise are also available thanks to electronic tracking from production through consumer trends. As Serna reports, technology has dramatically improved corporations' abilities to track and more appropriately understand consumer purchasing habits for everything from their favorite cereal to the types of financial services they require. While cultures such as that which exists in the United States and that of England are similar in many ways, profound differences have been found in styles of comedy and so forth that have only been breaking down recently with the increased connection through film, media and the internet. A s people become more sensitive to the differences between cultures, they also become more appreciative of the ideas and beliefs as they are expressed in the other cultures with which they come in contact. Thus, today's marketing is characterized by a complex combination of global and local appeals, technology-driven campaigns and, particularly, the emphasis placed on the concept of 'branding'. Â  The image presented by the company has come to be referred to generally under the single word 'branding.' Branding has often been publicized as the best means of creating a loyal customer base and achieving instant worldwide recognition. "Corporate branding emerged as a key concept in the late 1990s". The meaning of the term itself has undergone an extreme transformation in recent years.

Animal Cruelty Speech or Presentation Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 1

Animal Cruelty - Speech or Presentation Example This is only the smallest thing you can do yet. In all cities of every state exist refuge and associations for the rescue of uninhabited animals. You can watch over No Kill protection and rescue groups in your region and observe if you can join in. a kind human being should refuse apathy in all its shapes On fur farms animals are kept in overcrowded dirty cages, they are restricted to live in those small regions without any protection from the changing weather states. They do not even get the basic requirements like clean water, necessary protection from natural changes and veterinary care (Goranson, 1995). Fur farms restrict them to interact with nature and experience the natural activities like jumping, climbing, burrowing, and swimming. These extreme restrictions tire them from their life and due to lack of natural environment they become unable to deal with their life. To get the fur, fur farmers use inhumane ways of killing them. They try to practice the cheapest and the way which confirm the death of the animal. The cruelty can be confirmed by imagining their usual techniques which include suffocation, electrocution, poisonous gases and poisonous elements. A lot of animals are electrocuted by containing bars slotted in into their rectums and 240 volts pass all the way through their bodies (ASPCA, 2002). The animals shake, vibrate and often scream earlier than they have heart attacks and depart their life. Crude killing ways are not always successful, and at times animals "come to life" at the time when they are being skinned. Burberry, one of the leading bags and costume supplier, is well aware of the suffering that has been experienced in making the fur available for every fur-trimmed coat, hat, bag etc. Even after knowing this fact, the company does not stop using fur in its designs. Regardless of a number of alternatives available, it is useless to argue that they cannot stop using fur in their makings. There is no excuse for Burberry to continue helping the brutal humans in showing their cruelty by snatching the life of millions of animals for the sake of money and luxuries. To discourage Burberry and many other companies like them, who show that they are legal and are not involved in any such cruelty, we can stop using their products and notify them about our concern by simply contacting them via e-mail or their website. We must spread this news as much as we can, in order to provide a safe environment to the animals and to do justice with them. By using their products we are helping them in increasing their profits and buy more and more fur by killing more animals. Their products must be boycotted until they implement a fur-free plan (American Humane Association, 2000). Moreover, horse racing is no more an entertaining sport. The caretakers of racing horses do not take any account of the injuries and ailments that horses usually experience during racings. If the horse owners or the racing track owners are not ready to provide fitness and safety of horses, then authorities should implement strict rules to be followed by them in order to

Cinematic Arts Personal Statement Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Cinematic Arts - Personal Statement Example A critical analysis of my resume indicates an extremely disciplined, focused and organized mind, firstly as an operational specialist in the U.S. Navy and later as an administrative assistant to Arnold Schwarzenegger. In the U.S. Navy, I was responsible for the computer-assisted authorizations and instructions upon which the lives of Navy pilots depended. This was a high degree of responsibility and required great attention to detail and precision of communication. It also required me to quickly comprehend complex situations under stress and to explain clearly and quickly the logic of my decisions to aircraft personnel. In addition in instances where weather conditions could suddenly alter flight plans, I had to demonstrate the flexibility of thinking. My interest in media was nurtured within the political sphere both before and after working for the U.S. Navy. In the Department of Labor, I was most interested to conduct research on media outlets and to understand how the flow of information works between a government office and the broadcast media. I gained an insight into what is categorized as confidential information and what information is freely available, giving me a feel for information that might be "missing" when I read political articles in the newspapers. Working closely to briefs from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, I created publicity materials within a marketing plan, giving me greater confidence and understanding in the critical assessment of written documents and the message they convey. I provided the background information for press conferences from newspaper cuttings and in so doing had to understand the views of many different journalists and to have sensitivity for how subjects might be reported.2) Career Objectives All of the experience I have had win political offices has given me a great interest in understanding fields related to politics and business and how they interact with the media. I can see myself working in fields related to broadcast and film coverage, so one possibility, for example, would be public relations within military organizations e.g. the public affairs office of the U.S. Navy. One of my greatest ambitions is to be able to produce broadcast political shows on national T.V. that give people insight into the political issues of our time. In this I feel a PhD in Critical Studies at the School of Cinematic Arts will assist me greatly. My favorite media reading is the Washington Post and Hollywood Reporter, and I enjoy watching both Western and Chinese films from political blockbusters and thrillers (e.g. Oliver Stone's JFK) to martial art movies (e.g. John Woo) and those based on Chinese literature such as Red Cliff (dir: John Woo) and Crouching Tiger , Hidden Dragon (dir: Ang Lee). I feel my background to date is very solid in demonstrating critical analysis skills during my time as a U.S. Navy Operational Specialist, political communication skills through my time liaising with the media in the offices of Gov. Schwarzenegger, and business analysis and organizational skills learnt through my current Masters in Business administration and management.

Federal health care policy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Federal health care policy - Essay Example tient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) is an example of federal health policy that was passed and enacted in March 2010 (Cronin & Aponte, 2012). Over the past decades, federal health care policies have been criticized based on their implementation, effectiveness and consistencies with the constitutional framework of federalism. This paper, therefore, primarily aims at describing how the Obamacare raises the question of federalism, including the pros and cons in debates about the policy. It also provides the effectiveness of this policy and its consistency with the constitutional framework of federalism. President Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act into law, in March 2010 (Cronin & Aponte, 2012). He outlined that Obamacare program will introduce tax credits that will help small businesses offer insurance to their employees, restrict insurance firms to drop or limit a patient’s coverage due to illness, enable individuals with pre-existing conditions to quality for insurance, and allow people of up to 26 year remain on their parent or guardian’s policies (Cronin & Aponte, 2012). A number of reforms, under this bill, have been implemented while others are scheduled for implementation, in the next few years. Both the Democrats and Republicans have since criticized the bill, even after it was passed by congress. They argue that this bill will only reduce the access and quality to healthcare, and reduce a person’s ability to purchase health insurance (Cronin & Aponte, 2012). The debate about Obamacare concerns its effectiveness in enabling all Americans access and pay for their health insurance plans. People supporting Obamacare argues that this legislation builds on the existing health care system, and uses the available medical providers, doctors and plans. It also provides affordable and accessible healthcare for Americans (Jacobs & Skocpol, 2012). Patients will be able to negotiate about health care decisions with their
